Martin head shot

Welcome!

I hope you got here because you like the music!

If you haven't heard my music yet, then please, please go to the LISTEN page to find out where and how you can hear it. You never know, it might be the sound you've been waiting for!

If you simply want to find out more about me you can ask me something directly at the CONTACT page or read my bio at the ABOUT page.

Failing that, Google search is usually fairly kind to me. Something like, 'Martin Packwood guitarist' or just 'Martin Packwood' usually gets plenty of hits, including reviews and industry comments. I used to post plaudits on here but I figured it means more for listeners to find them independently.

I guess I'm in a 'Spread the Word' phase of my musical career at the moment and it is incredibly hard to stand out from the crowd. So please help me to reach more listeners. It's easy to do.

Whenever and wherever you listen to me, please hit the like, subscribe, save and/or follow buttons. It's free, it only takes a second and it really helps me get heard more!

Please also consider adding one or more of my tracks to your favourite playlists, and of course, be sure to share, and tell your friends.

Finally, I would love to hear what you think, good or bad, so please hit the comment buttons when you see one associated with my music and leave a note, long or short. Of course, a good place to comment for individual tracks is my YouTube official artist channel. Or you can send me feedback directly at the CONTACT page. You don't need to register and you can remain totally anonymous if you wish. I read all messages, and if you give me honest feedback it helps me to improve.

Thank you for dropping by, it really helps me and I greatly appreciate it,

ABOUT

Martin top half in studio

Born in Birmingham, England I was introduced to music at an early age. I learned to play my Dad's upright piano before I was 10 years old followed soon after by guitar. By my mid to late teens I was gigging regularly and frequently in Birmingham's vibrant music scene, and sometimes further afield. I played in a number of bands around that time, ranging from heavy rock, pop, funk and jazz, playing covers and original music that I often wrote or co-wrote.

Getting professionally recorded in those days was significantly more difficult than it is now. It was all analogue, vinyl and cassette. CDs were the new thing. There was no internet, social media, mobile phones, laptops. A different world.

Nevetheless I managed to find my way into several recording studios and onto various demo tapes. I loved recording as much as I did gigging, and I'm sure some of those old recordings must still be out there somewhere. Over a period of fifteen years or so I amassed a great deal of what I now know to be real and very useful experience of creating, recording and performing music.

Although I would have loved it, I never quite managed to get a recording deal. So when I reached my thirties I got a 'proper' day job and began raising a family. I didn't let go of my guitars though.

Roll on a few years and my girls are now both adults and have left home to start their own lives.

When the COVID lockdown hit I used the time to do the things I had never quite got around to. One of those things was to build a music recording studio in a spare room. I retrieved my guitars from the attic and started playing again.

After finishing off a few 'day job' work commitments I decided to turn my new hobby into a little bit more. I started to write some brand new material, and on November 3rd, 2023 I released 'East Coast Groove' and 'Dreamweaver'. I have been recording and releasing ever since, and I hope to do so for many more years to come.

I am profoundly grateful that the wonderful music, social and internet technologies of today have enabled me to do this without having to rely on a recording deal to finance it all.

How to listen

To find me at your favourite online music store search artists for 'Martin Packwood'. You should find me if I distribute to that service.

You can get my music at nearly all major online streaming services across the globe, including:

You can also buy high quality digital tracks at most online stores, including:

You might also hear me on Pandora and iHeart Radio in the USA!

Disclaimers

My name is fairly unique, but there is a bass guitarist with the name 'Martin Packwood' who was active in the 1980s in a punk group called 'Bron Area'.

Separately, there is one track ' Cartelizes Losel' on a compilation album 'Dive Awakening Vol. 4' released around 2018 that is credited to a 'Martin Packwood'.

Both come up in searches sometimes, and neither are anything to do with me!

Be aware that Amazon Music searches don't work very well for me. I don't know why. Often a search comes back with no results. Even if you do find me and click on one of my tracks the UI will play a random track by some other artist. As a result I am having to consider the value of distributing to Amazon Music in future.
